Last night in Vienna
Having worked my way through the Vienna airport and Aer Lingus, I arrived safely in Dublin. It's good to be in a country where they speak English again!
The flight was good, although it was like being on Virgin Blue - pay as you go. The flight was about two and a half hours - no TVs or entertainment. But it was all good.
Arrived in Dublin, and my travel agent had pre-arranged a pickup from the airport. He was an Irish guy and he talked the whole way to my hotel. At one stage I must have drifted off a bit while I was looking at my new home for a few days, and he said to me "Are you not talking to me now then...?" I only had to say Yes and No and grunt at the appropriate times... But I made sure I did that from then on...
My hotel is fine. It has no fridge, no iron and has an interesting way of flushing the toilet, but hey - it's got free Internet access so I love it already! It's just around the corner from quite a few shops, so I can take my pick for dinner. My most immediate need is to find a laundromat. There are quite a few dry cleaners, but I think I've sussed out a laundromat for tomorrow. Doing your washing while you're on the road is an interesting experience to say the least. Mostly I take it into the shower/bath with me and just do my best, but I'm going to try and go all out tomorrow and put things through the washing machine.
When I was exploring the shops I looked up at the street sign, and you wouldn't believe where I am... around the corner from Baggot St. All my Mercy friends will recognize that address already, but for those who don't know, Baggot St is where Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy. I've been there once before, and when I found out where I was, I thought I'd just go down about 100 metres, and there it was - the House of Mercy. It's a sign!!!!
Off for dinner now - I think I might get some bangers and mash tonight! Or perhaps some irish Stew!
So glad for you that you're warm again! You're right, it's a boiler here today, hot winds too. Nice to throw off the winter woollies and enjoy a bit of sun on the skin. Girls off to the beach shortly, will no doubt be packed. Hope you got the washing sorted. Catch ya. xxx
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you are drinking Heinekens! You are in Dublin now - time to change drinks. Amazing you are so close to the founding place of the Sisters of Mercy. I reckon it all means so much more when you find this link with your life over the other side of the world. Now off for a Guiness.
