Here I am in Vienna. The weather is overcast and showery - a bit like Perth when I left. Good for sight-seeing though!

Had an early start to the day, as I was in bed and asleep by 7pm last night. I don't think my body has adjusted to the difference in time zones! (Vienna is 6 hours behind Perth). Started the day by buying a "Vienna" card. This give you free access to all the public transport in Vienna. Very handy! Caught the "Ring Tram" first which goes round the outside of the old city, and gives you a running commentary on all the notable spots. That was a great introduction as I was able to go back later and catch the ordinary tram and knew what I was looking at.

My first port of call was St Stephen's Cathedral which is virtually the heart of Vienna - Stephansplatz. I was a bit disappointed for a few reasons... it had scaffolding around the outside, and there were too many tourists inside! They make you pay to see all the special places in the Cathedral, and I will never pay to go inside a Church! Goes against the grain!

Next I went to the Prater which is a bit like Luna Park. It is famous for its ferris wheel, and I was going to go on it, but a busload of tourists arrived just before me and the queue looked a bit long. Lots of groups of school kids. Felt sorry for their teachers!!!!

My hotel is right opposite theStadt Park. They are beautiful gardens - remind me of the Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne. Lots of statues of musicians around here. They're big into Mozart!
Too many photos to include in the blog - I'll just upload a few. I'm putting most of them at Photobucket, so you can go in there to see the rest if you wish.
Gutentag for now!
Terrific photos Moira. The architecture is just awesome, probably more so in the flesh! Your travelogues are great. Michele x

Isn't Vienna the most beautiful city? We couldn't get over all the lovely buildings just everywhere when we went. Did you get to any of the Strauss concerts? Sounds like you are having fun Moira. How are your compardres on the bus? If you are into ice cream at all then the ice cream in Vienna is a 'must'.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! Densie :)
Thanks for the comments, ladies! Loved Vienna too- we still have a day or two there on the end of this tour. Strauss concert included then!
